Nutritional
Counseling at
The
Seneca Wellness & Fitness Center
Why a Dietitian and not a Nutritionist?
Losing weight and changing what you eat is serious business.
To lose weight effectively and safely demands the expertise
of someone who can thoroughly understand your medical history,
lifestyle, eating habits, and nutritional profile.
A
registered dietitian is a licensed, board-certified professional
with a graduate degree who has spent years in clinical medicine
and weight management. This experience allows a dietitian to
intelligently distinguish between clever marketing/diet fiction
and scientific fact. A dietitian can also understand and take
into account any medical issues related to your diet including
such areas as diabetes, osteoporosis, eating disorders, hypo/hyperthyroidism,
hyperlipidemia, high cholesterol, etc.
By contrast,
anyone can call themselves a "nutritionist." There
is no length of schooling required to be a nutritionist. There
is no governing body of nutritionists to hold them to a certain
standard of practice. This is not to say there aren't competent
nutritionists practicing - ones who are well-read on nutrition,
offer sound advice and keep up-to-date on current research.
However, they are not bound to maintain the same educational
and professional standards as a dietitian.
Our Dietitian
Judy
Goffi MS, RD, CDE, LD

Judy received her Masters in Clinical Nutrition from Boston
University in 1987. Judy has over 25 years of experience as
a clinical dietitian, with expertise in weight management, sports
nutrition, disease prevention and medical nutrition therapy.
She has worked in virtually every type of medical setting and
has written numerous articles in books and medical journals.
Judy is also an tri-athlete, having competed in over 100
triathlons.
Judy's Perspective
|
"Losing
weight is not about finding the
'right diet'. Losing weight is about finding a way to
make your natural likes and dislikes work FOR you!"
|
Millions
of Americans struggle to lose weight, yet less than 1% of weight
loss methods out there are actually effective in long-term weight
management. Why?
Most commercial diet approaches offer a one-size fits all solution
such as “cut carbs in half” or “eat only low-fat”. Others force
you into a strict meal regimen. Rigid programs are nearly impossible
to stick with in today’s busy world.
At The Seneca Wellness & Fitness Center, Judy Goffi will show
you how to fit the foods you like into your particular lifestyle
and time constraints to help you lose weight safely and effectively.

“Judy
made everything so easy for me. I could still eat
the foods I loved, but just at different times and
with the healthier foods I was ignoring. I lost the
last 20 pounds from my pregnancy that exercise just
couldn’t get rid of thanks to Judy’s simple, common
sense approach to eating. I can take the principles
she gave me and not have to be dependent on her like
so many diet plans I’ve tried in the past.”
