 Wellness Center Staff:

Eden Smith, ACSM, CSCS

Eden has been involved with Seneca Physical Therapy since its inception. She became the director of the Seneca Wellness and Fitness Center when it began in 1997.

Beyond working in the fitness industry since 1991 and working with collegiate and professional women's basketball players, Eden has spent her entire post-college career in the field of rehabilitation medicine. This brings a background that is highly unusual for the field of fitness and wellness.

Eden's clinical background is directly responsible for the incredible growth of the Seneca Wellness and Fitness Center since 1997. Her unique ability to work with and tap into the fitness potential of persons of all ages, any goal, any fitness or medical background, is the driving force behind the Seneca Wellness and Fitness Center. Her clinical background allows her to identify problems that need to be addressed by a physical therapist or a physician much more easily and consistently than the average personal trainer.

Eden is a certified Health Fitness instructor through the American College of Sport Medicine and a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. These certifications from the ACSM and NSCA represent the highest certifications available as a personal fitness trainer. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree in Kinesiological Sciences.

Melissa Fidler, MS, RCEP

Melissa joined the team at Seneca Wellness and Fitness Center in the spring of 2005 after completing her Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from McDaniel College. She enjoys being able to combine the science of fitness and wellness with the science of rehabilitation. Melissa is a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) through the American College of Sports Medicine. An RCEP is a Masters prepared specialist and an allied health professional who works with persons with chronic diseases and conditions in which exercise has been shown to provide therapeutic and/or functional benefit.

She has found her niche as a professional that is responsible for preventative and rehabilitative programs such as the prevention of heart disease and other co morbidities, the maintenance and improvement of orthopedic limitations as well as Diabetes Prevention Program (which she helped to develop.) As a Type I diabetic, she has a personal interest in the positive benefits of exercise on diabetes, especially prevention.

Melissa has an Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and is a member of the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.

Sherry Karson-Simon

Certified Pilates Instructor

After a long search, we have found an experienced, personable, motivated and compassionate Pilates instructor – Sherry Carson-Simon. A few of our Wellness members and patients had previously worked with Sherry and RAVED about her! She has a great reputation and is a lot of fun to work with.

In 2001, Sherry was introduced to the Pilates Reformer. From her own participation in Pilates she increased her flexibility and strength and was able to avoid a total knee replacement.

Sherry studied with Mark Trudeau of Quantum Fitness, Inc. in Washington DC, completing over 800 hours of study and instruction. She received her certification from Power House Pilates.

She is a current member of Pilates Method Alliance and continues her education by taking continuing education courses.

Her interest in teaching Pilates to others is to help them regain movement that they have lost or to help them strengthen their bodies so they get the optimum amount of movement with little or no pain.
