Breaking Through the Weight-Loss Plateau
JUDY GOFFI MS, RD, CDE, LDIs it
true that you can break through a weight-loss plateau by eating
a low calorie diet?
Eating fewer than 800 to 1,000 calories a day is often recommended
to shock your body into weight loss. Doing this will actually
cause your body to turn down its thermostat to conserve every
calorie it can get.
Your body
doesn't know whether you're a prisoner of war suffering from
starvation or a prisoner to some crazy dieting fad. The only
way to break through a weight-loss plateau and burn more calories
is to exercise.
When weight
loss slows, walk a little longer or work out more frequently
or intensely.
And don't
forget to eat!
